Orissa install CCTV cameras in their daughter- inlaw’s bedroom? What do they want? They had threatened to eliminate me and upload the footage to social media if I dare to reveal this to anyone,” the complainant told reporters after filing the complaint.

Ms Mohanty said that when she enquired about the CCTV cameras, she was allegedly threatened with dire consequences. On May 31, she had filed a complaint with the Khurda police in this regard. Since no action was taken, the complainant once again filed a fresh complaint with the police, after which notices were served to the respondents.

“We are investigating the case based on the complaint. The other parties have been served notices. We are investigating into the allegations from various angles,” Khurda town police station inspector Ranjit Kumar Sahu said.

The allegations have, however, been refuted by Dr Rebati Kanta Das, a renowned medical practitioner and father- in- law of the complainant.

“The surveillance system was installed two years ago after a theft in our house. We had sealed the room after their marriage, the rest of the rooms are under CCTV coverage area,” Dr Das said.

Ms Mohanty got married to Gourav on November 27, 2015.
