Cong slams Centre, AAP on state of girls

-

Delhi Congress chief spokesperson Sharmistha Mukherjee on Saturday demanded a thorough probe into the shocking incident of two little girls, who are sisters aged three and seven years, who were found abandoned by their parents in the Badli area of the national capital.

Addressing a press conference Ms Mukherjee said, “If this was the fate of girl children under the nose of the Modi government at the Centre and the Kejriwal government in Delhi, what would be the fate of girls and women elsewhere in the country. Though the Modi government has been in power at the Centre for the past two and a half years, its slogan “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” does not seem to have made any impact in the lives of girl children and women while the Kejriwal government, which has been in power for

the past one and a half years, passes the buck to wriggle out of its responsibility.”

She said the very fact that such an appalling incident happened in Delhi, the national capital, and not in some remote village, questions the effectiveness and grass- root impact of “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” programme of the Modi sarkar. “It seems to remain a mere slogan as atrocities against girl children are on the rise as evident from the latest NCRB report.”

Ms Mukherjee accused the Delhi government of having a misogynist attitude and said its indifference towards the cause of women empowerment and gender issues are being exposed every day. “While the Delhi government spends crores of rupees of the tax payers’ money on purported achievements of the government. and self glorification of Mr Kejriwal, we would like to know why the government is silent on creating awareness on gender issues? We would like to ask the Delhi govenment, how much money, if at all any, has been spent in advertisements on women’s safety?”
