Hurt by Akhilesh’s remark, says Amar
‘Stood by him when family opposed his marriage’
New Delhi: Samajwadi Party Rajya Sabha member Amar Singh on Thursday finally broke his silence on the ongoing feud in the party and said he was “deeply hurt” that Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav called him a “dalal”.
Samajwadi Party Rajya Sabha member Amar Singh on Thursday finally broke his silence on the ongoing feud in the party and took umbrage at Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav calling him a ‘dalal’ (power broker).
Amar Singh said that he was “deeply hurt” by the Uttar Pradesh chief minister’s comments.
He also expressed fear that expelled Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav was after his life. “I have two young daughters and right now I am scared after Ram Gopal’s threatening statement. If anything happens to me he will be responsible”.
The Samajwadi Party has split wide open amid a feud within the party with Akhilesh Yadav repeatedly blaming Amar Singh for the crisis and had bitterly opposed his re-induction into the party earlier this month. Amar Singh on his part has been on the side of Akhilesh’s uncle Shivpal Yadav who is in turn backed by Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav.
The SP leader, seen to be close to both Mulayam Singh Yadav and Shivpal Yadav, invoked Akhilesh Yadav’s marriage to say that he had stood by him during tough times and though he was aligned against the Uttar Pradesh chief minister, he was still with Mulayam Singh Yadav’s son.
“I am hurt by his (Akhilesh Yadav) words. There is no photo of his wedding where this ‘dalal’ is not there. When his (Akhilesh Yadav) family was opposing his marriage,” Amar Singh said adding he was the only one supporting him when everyone was opposed to his marriage with Dimple Yadav.
On Akhilesh Yadav’s allegations against him that an outsider was behind the rift in the party, he said: “If sacrificing me is a solution to the problem, party should do that”.
