BJP wave to be bigger than one in 2014: Shah

- AMITA VERMA

BJP president Amit Shah said on Thursday that he sees a wave bigger than the 2014 Lok Sabha elections in favour of the party in Uttar Pradesh and hopes to get two-third majority in the upcoming Assembly elections. “Bua-bhatija ki sarkar mein law and order theek nahin ho sakta. SP and BSP give patronage to criminals but the BJP does not have a single name in the list of criminals — we only have patriots in the party,” he said, addressing a Sankalp Rally in Etawah, the bastion of SP president Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Mr Shah said in the Mayawati regime in UP, rape cases increased by 161 per cent and over 1,100 dalits were killed. “Only the BJP can firmly set right the law and order situation in the state,” he added.

He added said that the SP, BSP and Congress together are responsible for scams worth `12 lakh crore — equivalent to the state’s total expenditure in three years — which, if used for development, could have changed the face of the state. “UP mein chacha khaye, bhatija khaye — yeh ab nahin chalega. I want to ask all three parties that on what basis are you seeking votes after indulging in so much corruption?”

He announced as soon as the BJP comes to power in the state, these parties would be held accountable for every penny they “swindled”. He also briefed about the Centre government’s schemes launched for farmers, dalits, women and poor. Ridiculing Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi for his “potato factory” remarks, Mr Shah said, “Rahul Baba does not know that potato is grown in fields not produced in factories.”
