Easy wins for PNB, Railways

A goal each from Arjun Antil and Satender Kumar helped Punjab National Bank edge Indian Air Force 2-0, while Indian Railways trumped Air India 5-1 in the Torex 53rd Nehru senior hockey tournament in the capital on Monday.

Antil handed his team the lead in the third minute through a field goal.

But the rest of the first half saw no further additions to the scoreline as PNB maintained their lead.

After the changeover, Satender Kumar netted in the 55th minute. IAF could not breach the PNB defence in the Group B clash. Shivdeep Singh of PNB was adjudged man of the match.

In the second Group B match, five Indian Railways players scored with a sole strike coming from Air India in reply.

Manpreet Singh put Indian Railways ahead in the sixth minute through a field goal, while Poonacha Muckkatira made it 2-0 for them eight minutes later.

But Arjun Sharma of Air India pulled one back in the 28th minute. At half-time, the score read 2-1 in the Railways’ favour.

The Railmen dominated the second half, scoring three goals without reply.

Amit Rohidas converted a corner in the 43rd before the Railmen added two more to their tally through Ajmer Singh and Rajin Kandulna in the 60th and 61st minutes. Ralways’ Shushant Tirkey was adjudged man of the match.
