-

New Delhi: The cops have been sent into a tizzy after a gang of robbers, in a gold heist, managed to break into a jewellery shop by drilling hole through the wall of an adjacent shop and decamped with gold and silver articles along with cash `1.5 lakh kept in the locker. The police suspect involvement of over four members in the heist. According to the police, before making away with the silver and gold articles, the burglars took away the Digital Video Record to mislead the police. The theft took place in Tilak Nagar police station limits on Thursday early morning and came to light around 10 am when the complainant and the owner of the jewellery shop, Vinay Verma, opened the shop only to find his jewellery worth lakhs missing. The Tilak Nagar police, who was informed about the theft, visited the spot with sniffer squad and FSL experts and carried out a probe. The neighbouring shop is a tailor shop. “The burglars broke open into the tailor shop and managed to drill a hole through to the jewellery shop and sneaked inside. They then entered the main shop, stole 700 grams of gold, 15 kg silver articles and `1.5 lakh,” said a police officer. Prima facie suggest the role of an insider who knew that the shop had no burglary alarm. Fingerprints experts carried out the probe and collected vital clues from the scene of crime. The police team is now scouring the CCTV footage available from the area to get hints regarding the identity of the thieves.
