- AGE CORRESPONDENT

Sharmila Nicollet carded a three under 67 to grab the lead on the second day of the Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour at the Tollygunge Club in Kolkata on Wednesday.

Trailing her by a margin of one shot are Amandeep Drall and Vani Kapoor on totals of 143.

Hero MotoCorp sponsored Sharmila Nicollet made an impressive comeback from eighth position to take the lead with the only sub par round of the day.

She started with aplomb, carding a bogey free front nine, with three birdies. In her back nine, she had a birdie and a bogey apiece to put herself in a strong position for a first win of the current season.

Panchkula’s Drall played with caution, carding an even par front nine. She had one early birdie thereafter but could not sustain the momentum, dropping three shots to finish her round with a two over 72.

Delhi’s Vani Kapoor endured a mixed day. She had a shaky start with an early dropped shot, hit three birdies but two more bogeys meant she made the turn in regulation.

On her way in, she had two birdies against as many dropped shots plus a double that gave her a three over 73 total.

Overnight leader Saaniya Sharma would have hoped for a better day as she had a lone birdie against five bogeys and a double.

She ended the day fourth with a six over 76 and a 145 total.

Saaniya was followed by New Delhi’s Mehar Atwal on 147, whose card had one birdie against three bogeys and a double bogey.

Jaipur’s Afshan Fatima, Kolkata’s Smriti Mehra and Gurgaon’s Gaurika Bishnoi were tied sixth on 148.
