International drug cartel busted, 2 held
The trail of drugs, which had its roots in Afghanistan and Pakistan, was exposed and unearth by the Delhi police’s special cell sleuths on Friday. The team, along with the arrest of two members, seized two kilograms of high grade heroin worth `8 crore in the international market.
The team also recovered `20 lakh as sale proceeds of the drugs, an i20 car with fake number plate, and the phone used for trafficking drugs. The two arrested, Gurnaam Singh alias Giani and Dilbagh Singh alias Sonu, were arrested from Singhu border in Delhi on Thursday.
Cracking a whip against the drug mafia, the special cell team said that apart from Indians, foreign nationals from Africa, Afghanistan, and Pakistan are also part of the drug cartel.
According to the police, sleuths of the Special Cell received information that an international narcotic drug cartel is active in the states of Manipur, UP, Delhi, and Punjab. The members of this cartel are involved in the supply of high grade heroin. After a constant check and deploying police surveillance for over four months, members of this cartel were identified and their activities were kept under discreet surveillance.
On March 8, information was received that a big consignment of drugs would exchange hands near a petrol pump at Amrahi Village Extn in Dwarka area. It was further ascertained that drug traffickers would be coming in an i20 car with Haryana registration plate to receive a consignment of drugs from a man of African origin.
Accordingly, a team was formed and a trap was laid at the vantage points near the petrol pump. The said car was spotted. There was a quick exchange of consignment. The drug traffickers sensed police presence and sped away. Police teams tailed their car and after a high speed chase, intercepted it near Singhu border. The drug traffickers tried to mow down the police men in a bid to escape. In the ensuing tussle, the police team broke the side glasses of the car and forced the drug traffickers to surrender.
