Tiff over water balloons turns ugly, cop injured

Holi celebratio­ns turned bloody for a 44-year-old Delhi police constable on Friday evening when he was attacked, beaten and pelted with stones at after he asked a minor boy not to throw balloons at him. The incident took place in Jahangirpu­ri police station limits on Friday evening at around 5 pm.

The injured police constable, identified as Lateesh, who is attached with the assistant commission­er of police, hails from Kerala. Lattesh had been suffering from fever and on Friday, he was returning after visiting a doctor at Jagjeevan Ram Hospital at around 5pm.

According to the police, while constable Lateesh was returning to the station, a minor boy hit him with a water balloon. Irate over it, Lateesh told the 14year-old minor not to throw balloons at him as he was unwell and had fever. Meanwhile, a man came out from the house and began misbehavin­g with him. Hearing commotion, two women also came out of the house and asked what was going on. Lateesh told the two ladies that he is a constable and was crossing the place when the

boy hit him with the balloon. Upon hearing this, the three allegedly began assaulting Lateesh and hit him.

The police further said that while Lateesh was trying to get away from the trio, a man from the crowd pelted stones at him which hit his nose and resulted into a deep cut. The constable sustained head and face injury and began bleeding profusely from the nose.

The incident came to light when the 44-year-old constable informed his counterpar­ts, who visited the spot and took him to a hospital. Based on his complaint, Jahangirpu­ri police has taken up the case and are probing in this connection.
