Winter and autumn designs mark Day 1

The much-awaited fashion event of the country presented its winter edition in the capital on a sunny Wednesday afternoon with 14 designers including Aneeth Arora, Rajesh Pratap Singh, Sanjay Garg, Suket Dhir, Urvashi Kaur among several others presenting their own interpreta­tions of Indian handloom in a show organised by the Handloom School supported by Good Earth.

Minister of Textiles Smriti Irani was seen cheering the initiative. The collection­s were specifical­ly designed for young weavers in Maheshwar, Central India.

Its intent is to provide a rigorous, non-traditiona­l education for students who have traditiona­l weaving skills but no access to a convention­al academic education. The highlight included weavers taking the centre stage by walking down the runway.

Next followed the Jakarta Fashion Week presenting Indonesian designer Novita Yunus who showcased her collection titled BumiLangit. The designer took inspiratio­n from the autumn leaves.

The 5.15 pm slot was occupied by two textile doyens — Krishna Mehta and Madhu Jain. Krishna, noted for bringing limelight on Maheswari fabric presented collection“Parted Lips”.

It included bursts of bouquets, cinched waistlines, geometric patches.

Madhu, who is celebratin­g 30 years in the industry presented a collection of hand-picked garments with ancient elements.
