5 medical interns hurt in mishap, doc held

Three interns of the Maulana Azad Medical College sustained injuries after a car, which was being driven by one of the hospital doctors, hit them on Sunday night. The accused has been arrested.

Of the three injured, one claimed that she was dragged along for several metres before the car came to a halt.

The victims have been identified as Geetanjali, Mamata and Kusum, all MBBS students in the college.

According to the statement purportedly made by Geetanjali, the incident happened around 11.30 pm when she and her two colleagues were standing near the college’s pathology block. The three were returning after attending an event in the hospital.

She told the police that despite the three having taken sufficient care to stay away from the road, a speeding car, that was coming from behind, hit them. Geetanjali herself was dragged by the moving car for some distance before it stopped.

The vehicle was being driven by Dr Varun. Geetanjali, who is a resident of Indra Park, claimed that the vehicle was being driven at a very high speed. The three sustained serious injuries and the other doctors, who were present there, came rushing and took the victims to the LNJP Hospital. Geetanjali claimed that at the hospital, Dr Varun visited them and apologised. While her treatment continued in LNJP, the other two were later referred to another hospital.
