Delhi’s per capita income highest in India, Goa 2nd
The per capita income of Delhi is nearly three times higher than the national average of `1,03,818 for the year 2016-17, according to “Estimates of State Domestic Product-2016-17,” released by the Delhi government on Monday.
It is expected to be `3,03,073 for the year 201617, against `2,73,618 during 2015-16. Among all states and Union Territories, Delhi ranks first, while Goa is at the second position with `2,70,150 and Chandigarh stood third with `2,42,386 per capita income during 2015-16, the government said.
Deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia said the share of service sector in Delhi’s economy is about 82.26 per cent, followed by secondary sector at 14.84 per cent and primary sector at 2.90 per cent.

14.83 per cent and the maximum share of 29.81 per cent is from the real estate, ownership of dwellings and professional services.
Mr Sisodia, who is also the city finance minister, said the gross state domestic product (GSDP) in Delhi at the current prices for the year 2016-17 is estimated at `6,22,385 crore against `5,51,963 crore in 2015-16, registering a growth of 12.76 per cent.
As regards the real growth in GSDP at constant prices, in Delhi, during 2016-17, it is 8.26 per cent as compared to 7.1 per cent at the national level. The contribution of Delhi in total GDP (at current prices) at the National Level is 4.08 per cent as compared to 1.4 per cent share of Delhi in total population of the country, according to the report. Mr Sisodia claimed that the economy of Delhi is “going forward on the path of sustainable growth.” As per the GSDP estimates, Delhi ranks better than some of the states such as Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Punjab, Haryana and Odisha, he said.
