In a shocking incident, a 20-year-old youth was killed after being hit with a cricket bat following a heated argument with two juveniles in Subzi Mandi area on Tuesday evening.

The police said that the victim, Angad Gupta, a resident of Sita Sharan colony in Subzimandi area, was passing through the area where local youth were playing “galli cricket”. As per eyewitness account, the ball accidentally hit Angad. Enraged over it, he picked up a quarrel with two juveniles. Following the heated argument, Angad slapped one of the juvenile and locals rushed to the spot to pacify them. Angad, who worked as a counter boy at a nearby eatery, later left for work.

On the same evening, when Angad was on the way to his uncle’s home, who lives in nearby area, he was attacked by two local youth with whom he had an argument in the morning. One of the juvenile hit him with a cricket bat on the neck after which he collapsed, said a police official.

As blood started coming out of the victim’s mouth, the attackers fled the spot.

The family members rushed Angad to a hospital, where the doctors declared him brought dead. Thereafter, they informed the police about the incident. The body has been sent for a post-mortem, the police said.

“The accused are juvenile. They were apprehended from the same area within a few hours. A case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder has been registered,” the DCP said.
