Panic after hoax call to blow up PM’s residence

The Delhi police was thrown into a tizzy on Wednesday morning when the police control room received a threat call about blowing up the various prominenan­t places in the city, including Prime Minister’s residence and Rajiv Chowk Metro station.

The Delhi Police control room received the call at 8.30 am, a senior police official said.

The caller threatened to shake the national capital with a serial bomb blasts at various locations, which included the Prime Minister’s residence, Rajiv Chowk Metro Station and Bangla Sahib Gurdwara. However, the call turned out to be a hoax.

The police carried out operations and checks at various places in the city. Additional forces were also called in.

According to the official statement by the Delhi Metro Rail Authority, a call was made at the Delhi police PCR informing them about the bomb scare at the Rajiv Chowk Metro Station. The call was made from a mobile number 8377955517 and the caller said, “Bomb blast hoga.” Soon, the forces were called in and seniors were informed about the same.

The police had received a similar call of planting bombs at Red Fort last week services. After a thorough check at the station by CISF and Delhi police team, there was no suspicious material found.

“Operations were carried out and it was found that the call was a hoax. The mobile number of the caller was traced to a location in Rohini in north-west Delhi,” the officer said, adding the phone was switched off immediatel­y after the call.

“We are trying to ascertain the identity of the caller,” he said.

In last two months, the city police has received over three such calls where the caller has threatened to blow up the national capital. The city police received a similar call of planting bombs at the Red Fort last week and arrested Mehfuz, who had made the phone call for “fun”.
