Doc abducted during cab ride, rescued from Meerut

A doctor who was kidnapped earlier this month from East Delhi’s Preet Vihar was rescued safely on Wednesday from Meerut by the Delhi police with assistance from their counterpar­ts in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday evening and four men have been nabbed in connection with the matter, the police said.

A senior police officer said that one of the accused also sustained bullet injuries in a shootout that ensued between the police and the kidnappers. Shrikant Gaur, who works at a hospital in East Delhi, was kidnapped on July 6 from Preet Vihar while he was travelling in an Ola cab.

After kidnapping him, they demanded a ransom of ` 5 crore from his family. The police were kept in the loop with the matter.

The police managed to track down the location of the accused in Daurala village in Meerut. On July 16, they were following a vehicle being driven by the kidnappers. However, after their tyre got punctured, the accused left their vehicle and fled through some fields. The police identified the two accused as Sushil and his brother Anuj, residents of Dadri village. It also emerged that two others, Ombir and Gaurav Sharma were involved in the kidnapping. Sushil was a driver with the cab aggregator firm and he planned the kidnapping, the police said. After they were identified, the police started questionin­g their families and their teams also started scanning nearby villages.
