HERE’S HOW THE CASE UNFOLDED

TWO COUSINS, VIKAS AND VISHAL YADAV, ABDUCTED NITISH KATARA FROM THE WEDDING OF HIS CLASSMATE IN GHAZIABAD IN FEBRUARY 2002. THE SENSATIONAL NITISH KATARA MURDER CASE HAS RUN FOR MORE THAN 15 YEARS NOW.

Vikas and Vishal Yadav abduct Nitish Katara from a wedding function in Ghaziabad late at night. They allegedly disapproved of Nitish’s intimacy with their sister Bharti.

KATARA FOUND DEAD

The burnt body of Nitish Katara is found near Hapur crossing in a village Khurja in Bulandshahar, UP. The police find Vikas and Vishal as immediate suspects. Bharti leaves for the United Kingdom. The Uttar Pradesh police file four-page chargesheet in the murder case

ACCUSED ARRESTED

After victim’s mother, Neelam Katara fears miscarriage of justice, Supreme Court directs that the case be transferred from a sessions court to be heard by a competent court of similar jurisdiction in Delhi Vishal and Vikas arrested from Madhya Pradesh Separate trial launched against third accused, Sukhdev Pehalwan, who was arrested in 2005 Court summons Bharti Yadav for recording her statement

YADAVS JAILED FOR LIFE

Court finds Vikas and Vishal guilty, sentences them to life in prison Trial court convicts Sukhdev Pehalwan in the case. Court awards life imprisonment to Sukhdev.
