FM: Aim was to digitise economy

Finance minister Arun Jaitley said Wednesday that last year’s demonetisation exercise was not to confiscate money but to make the Indian economy a formal one, to expand the tax base and give a big boost to digitalisation of payments.

The government’s next step, the finance minister added, would be to stop the use of black money in elections.
