Two persons were arrested in Rohini following a shootout for allegedly kidnapping a 23-year-old businessman, on Tuesday night.

The businessman was rescued around midnight after almost an hour of his abduction, they said. One of the kidnappers opened fire at the police party, while being chased. The police retaliated and he was injured, the police said.

Nithish Arora, a resident of Pitampura, was returning from his factory that manufactures moulding dyes in Kundli Industrial Area.

After Mr Arora crossed the Singhu border at the GT Karnal Road, three to four men, who were travelling in a car, started following him.

The accused followed him for quite a distance and then hit the rear side of his car. The kidnappers overtook Mr Arora’s car and started arguing with him. Later, they got into the victim’s car and took him hostage, the police said.

They asked him details about his residence, work and family and later planned to demand a ransom, the police added.

Incidentally, when the victim was arguing with the accused, he was talking to one of his friends over phone.

Mr Arora’s friend overheard the argument between the victim and the accused. After overhearing the conversation, he alerted Mr Arora’s family members who, in turn, informed the police, deputy commissioner of police (Rohini) Rishi Pal said.

The victim car’s location was tracked down through electronic surveillance and the police reached the spot where the accused were changing a flat tyre of the car, he said. Mr Arora was gagged and shifted to the boot of the victim’s car.

The family members of the victim also reached the spot and identified the victim’s car. When the accused found themselves surrounded by the police, they opened fire at the police party. The police also returned fire and one of the accused persons was also hit, the DCP said.

Two persons, including the injured man, were arrested and the victim was rescued.

A loaded pistol along with two live cartridges were recovered from the accused’s possession.
