MAN POSING AS LANKAN MISSION EMPLOYEE HELD

A 40-year-old man was arrested for posing as an employee of the Sri Lankan High Commission and using a Honda Civic car with high commission registrati­on number in Farsh Bazar area of Shahdara on Wednesday. The police received informatio­n about a person impersonat­ing as a Sri Lankan high commission employee and driving a car with the commission’s registrati­on number, the police said. The vehicle was found parked inside Chitrakoot Apartment, east Arjun Nagar. A raid was conducted by a team, led by Sunil Sharma, SHO, Farsh Bazar, and one Nitin Malhotra was arrested. The Honda Civic car was also seized, they added. Initially, the accused Mr Malhotra introduced himself as an employee of the high commission. Mr Malhotra had purchased the car from a Sri Lankan minister, said deputy commission­er of police (Shahdara) Nupur Prasad. As per the documents seized, the registrati­on number was cancelled on July 15 last year. Though a new registrati­on number was issued, but the accused didn’t remove the earlier number plate to obtain the privileges available to the original owner.
