Police tighten security ahead of Dussehra, Diwali
To curb the twin menace of eve-teasing and molestation, Delhi police has started making elaborate security arrangements in view of the coming festive season.
The police has to provide security to as many as 500 500 Durga Puja pandals and Ramlila in the capital.
The police said that personnel in plainclothes will be deployed to keep an alert eye on the goings on. This newspaper after accessing the Delhi police data found that they have received around 289 Ramlila and Dusherra security applications from the city, while around 227 applications for the Durga Puja celebration.''
“The application for security consists of both small and big Ramlila and Puja pandals. They will be heavily guarded by our personnel,” said a senior police officer.
According to the data, the highest number of applications, 51, came from north-west district for the forthcoming Dussehra and Ramlila festivals, while for Durga Puja, south-east and south west received 62 applications, while south Delhi received 57 applications .
This apart, the police received 39 applications for Ravan Dahan security.
Talking about the security issue, one of the police officers said from months before, they start making security arrangements for the festive season.

In the recently held inter-state co-ordination meeting of eastern range of Delhi police with Meerut range, Uttar Pradesh police, anti-terror measures was one of the priorities during the upcoming festival season.
Joint commissioner of police (Eastern range) Ravindra Yadav said in the meeting that the security measures for the festival season, Navratra, Dussehra, Diwali, were discussed at length. Joint pickets checking and patrolling at the border points and close surveillance, sharing of information and action against inter-state gangs and criminals were also discussed.
According to the police, they will also keep a tight vigil on eve-teasers as police personnel, including woman constables will be deployed in plain clothes nearby Durga puja pandals and Ramlila.
As per police data of central Delhi, around 43 cases of molestation and 17 cases of eve-teasing were registered during 2015 and 2016 for three months, October, November and December. Among them, nine cases of eve-teasing were solvedwith the arrest of nine accused and 33 cases of molestation were worked out where the police arrested 41 persons.
