CBI takes over probe into Gurgaon murder

New Delhi: The CBI on Friday took over the probe into the murder of a sevenyear-old student of Ryan Internatio­nal School in Gurugram. A team of CBI officials along with forensic experts will visit the school on Saturday, sources said.

The CBI took over the probe into the murder of Pradhuman Thakur, a seven-year-old student of Ryan Internatio­nal School in Gurgaon, on Friday. Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar had on September 15 announced that the state government had handed over the inquiry into the case to CBI. The gruesome murder of Class 2 student has triggered a nation-wide furore.

Talking to this newspaper, CBI spokespers­on Abhishek Dayal said, “The CBI has registered a case pertaining to the alleged murder of a seven year old boy, a student of Class 2 in Ryan Internatio­nal School, Sohna Road, Gurgaon, on the request of the Haryana government and further notificati­on from the Central government.”

The agency has taken over the investigat­ion of the case which was earlier registered vide FIR No. 250 dated September 8 at police station Bhondsi, Gurgaon, under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code, 25 of Arms Act, 12 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act & 75 of Juvenile Justice (J.J.) will also take statements of Pradhuman’s parents, sources said.

Pradhuman was murdered on September 8 inside the Ryan Internatio­nal School. He was found dead with his throat slit inside the school’s washroom within an hour after his father dropped him at school that morning.

A school bus conductor was arrested the same day for allegedly killing the child.

The police alleged that school bus conductor, Ashok Kumar (42), murdered him after the boy resisted an attempt to sodomise him. Two other officials of the school had also been taken into custody.

The CBI will also record the statement of Ryan Internatio­nal group’s CEO Ryan Pinto in connection with the case.

Meanwhile, Pradhuman’s father Barun Thakur on Friday told a press conference here that he had appealed to the top leaders of the country to expedite the CBI inquiry into the “sensitive matter”.
