Drunk cop assaults colleague, flees

Accused constable creates ruckus, escapes from training camp

A police constable allegedly created ruckus after he got drunk and assaulted another constable in a Delhi police training camp at Jhadoda.

After learning that the matter was being reported to the seniors, the accused tried to run over the fellow policeman. However, the situation was brought under control after an inspector intervened. According to the complainan­t, Ajay Kumar, 46, a police constable attached to Vivek Vihar police station was undergoing training for CIU in Jhadoda. In the same platoon, the accused constable Pawan was also present and both were living in the same tent. He further alleged that Pawan got drunk and created ruckus inside the tent. The accused constable also threatened Ajay that he would throw away his bedsheet and also hurled abuses at him. Pawan was reprimande­d by the senior officers for his alleged misbehavio­ur. Following this, Ajay who was unwell was granted leaves. On his way to home, the accused tried to hit him twice by his vehicle. When he failed in his attempt, he got out of the car and started beating Ajay.

The incident came to fore when one of the inspector’s hearings commotion came to check and witnessed Pawan thrashing Ajay. He immediatel­y intervened into the matter. While he was trying to save Ajay, Pawan gave a slip to the cop and fled the training camp in his vehicle. An enquiry has been set up to probe into the matter.
