PEECEE WISHES HER FRIEND MEG

- DYUTI BASU

Ever since she was four years old, all Alia Bhatt wanted to be was a star. Though the launch of her career was fairly smooth despite the box office and critical failure of her debut film Student of the Year, the actress has had to weather her share of storms – not the least of which was her president of India debacle.

At the International Film Festival of India ( IFFI), however, the actress admitted that she has learned to take her lumps with a sense of philosophy. “There are people all over the world who know me only because of this debacle. I was at Singapore Airport, and the staff there said that they know me. I thought maybe they’d seen my films, but they said they really like my jokes. I guess at the end of the day, I’m just glad that I made someone happy,” she shrugged.

While the actress agrees that she has grown with each film she has worked in, she also confessed right at the start of the conversation to being a very moody person. “I’ve at least seven personalities. There’s the person I’m with my parents, the person I am with my friends, the person I am when I meet someone for the first time, when I am at a party and I don’t want to party, when I do want to party, when I am at work and doing things very seriously, when I am at work and taking things lightly. I’m just a very moody person,” she confessed.

Having reached stardom at a young age, Alia now wishes to live in the moment and take each glory as it comes. “My father always tells me that the day I join my own fan club, is the same day that my career is over. I don’t want anything to ruin my career, least of all something I did. So that’s something that helps to keep my head on my shoulders,” she said.

Parental support has always been a part of the actress’ life and she has time and again, spoken about the bond shared with her father, Mahesh Bhatt. Alia said, “He always has pointers for me after he watches a film. He’ll say that you did really great in this scene, or the actor overpowered you too much in that scene. But it’s before talk shows and interviews that he really gets excited,” giggled the actress.

On a more serious note, Alia, like many others in the film industry lent her full support to the Padmavati team, saying, “I said this in my tweet, and I say it again, it’s not just Padmavati, but this entire trend of protesting against films that I have a problem with. Let the film release first.”

Later, when asked if a screening of the film will skew history, she added, “I am not a part of the film, so I couldn’t tell you if there is anything like that. But there is such a thing as creative licence… Just as you have your right to your opinion, I also have my right to expression.” Following Meghan Markle’s engagement to Prince Harry, our desi girl Priyanka Chopra sent her best wishes to the royal couple. Priyanka took to Instagram to express her delight and congratulate her close friend ‘ Meg’.

“Congratulations to my girl @ meghanmarkle and Prince Harry!! I’m so happy for you Meg! You deserve the best always.. keep smiling that infectious smile. Xoxo ( sic),” wrote the Baywatch actress. The two actresses have been spotted hanging out together on various occasions and have even shared pictures togeher on social media. Sushant Singh Rajput and Kriti Sanon are soon expected to make their relationship official. Word is that the actress is keen on making sure their relationship gets a status at the earliest.

While we’re still unsure if an engagement is on the cards already, Kriti hopes they’re seen as a girlfriend and boyfriend at least.

The two have been meeting secretly of late, away from the prying eyes of the paparazzi. They seem to have rekindled the romance that they had given a break to after the release of the below- average film Raabta.

“The film may not have been a hit, but their relationship is,” a source laughs. “The complement each other really well and look good together too. Close friends are convincing them to make the relationship official, as it will reduce the insecurity in it for both of them, and will also get others to stay away from them. But Sushant is yet to agree to an idea like this.”
