Russia probe makes US ‘ look very bad’: Trump

Washington, Dec. 29: US President Donald Trump on Thursday said he believes the probe into Russian meddling in the US election “makes the country look very bad,” according to The New York Times.

Speaking to the newspaper, Mr Trump said he believes special counsel Robert Mueller will treat him fairly a view in contrast with recent attacks on Mueller’s credibilit­y from Republican­s, who have pressed for a new independen­t prosecutor to investigat­e antiTrump bias.

“It makes the country look very bad, and it puts the country in a very bad position,” Trump told the Times.

The President added that he was not concerned about the ongoing investigat­ion which his lawyers insisted would be finished by Thanksgivi­ng as “everybody knows” there was no Russian collusion.

“There’s been no collusion. But I think he’s going to be fair,” Mr Trump said of Mueller.

He repeated the allegation­s were invented by Democrats “as a hoax, as a ruse, as an excuse for losing an election,” the Times reported. Washington, Dec. 29: An Indian- origin student was shot dead during an attempted armed robbery in the US, becoming one of the latest victims of gun violence in the country.

Another Indian was injured in the attack.

Arshad Vhora, 19, was shot dead on Thursday at the Clark gas station at 142nd and Langley in Dolton in Chicago, CBS News reported.

The police said two people were shot during an armed robbery attempt inside store.

The second victim, who was not named, was critically wounded, police the convenienc­e said, adding are related.

Vhora was filling in for a family member at the convenienc­e store and gas station, relatives were quoted as saying by the report.

The suspects fled the scene. No one has been arrested yet. A USD 12,000 reward is being offered to help solve the case, the report said.

On December 15, Karunakar Karengle was killed during a robbery by two hooded attackers in Ohio.

Earlier this month, a 30year- old Indian national pursuing his masters in Chicago has been seriously injured after he was shot in his right cheek by an unidentifi­ed assailant.

There were 58,491 incidents of gun violence across the country in 2017 in which 14,763 people were killed and 29,888 others injured.
