- AGE CORRESPONDENT

Union minister of state for housing and urban affairs Hardeep Singh Puri on Friday laid the foundation stone of flyovercum- ROB at Narela in the presence of lieutenant governor Anil Baijal. Mr Puri assured that the flyover would be completed in 15 months at a cost of 437.21 crore.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Puri said that of late, the national capital was facing several challenges and the most critical one was population pressure. In 1947 the population of Delhi was less than 10 lakh and according to 2016 Census, it has crossed 190 lakh and as per Master Plan 2021, the city population will reach up to 2.30 crore.

“To give relief to commuters from traffic rush, the government is taking several measures for decongestion and the construction of this flyover is part of it. This flyover will cater to around 16 lakh commuters daily,” said the minister.

Referring to the Land Pooling Policy, which is ready to be rolled out soon, he said there was a need for Phase- 4 of Delhi Metro. The chief minister has been urged to prepare a proposal and submit the same for finalisation by union government.

Mr Baijal said Delhi's population was increasing at a ratio of 2.5 per cent per annum, while the ruse in vehicles was five per cent per annum. Once the flyover is constructed it will provide relief to the areas of Rohini and Narela.
