Delhi police seeks cancellati­on of licence of the bar

In a shocking incident, a 30- year- old man was shot in the pub premises in Greater Kailash area on Saturday night following an argument apparently over parking space.

The police said that the accused, Umesh Aditya Kumar, a resident of Govind Puri, and the victim had an argument over parking space, following which the accused brandished a revolver and shot at Vinay Bati.

After receiving informatio­n about the incident, the police reached the spot to find that Mr Bati was rushed AIIMS Trauma Centre with a bullet wound near the collarbone. The doctors reported that the the victim is out of danger and will be discharged soon.

The accused was immediatel­y nabbed and handed over to the police.

“We received a call at Greater Kailash police station regarding the firing at the parking area of M block GK 1 market. When we reached the spot, it was found that the victim, a resident of Sarita Vihar, was rushed to the AIIMS trauma centre,” the police said.

A crime team inspected the scene of the incident. Kumar will be arrested once he is discharged from hospital.

At around 2 pm, bystanders said the duo was engaged in an argument over parking space, following which Kumar shot Mr Bati and injured him.

The accused Kumar was thrashed by bystanders and had to be moved to the AIIMS trauma centre for medical treatment.

The police seized the revolver and registered a case of attempt to murder on the accused.

“We will examine the CCTV footage and the exact time of the incident will be ascertaine­d only after going through it.

“Allowing anti- social elements into the bar is in violation of the licence’s terms and conditions. Local police will write to licensing branch for cancellati­on of licence of the bar where the incident happened,” said a senior police officer.

He further said that all police stations in South district have been instructed to keep a watch on pubs, bars and restaurant­s and sensitise the security staff of the places to prevent such incidents.
