Romania’s Simona Halep had to be rushed to a hospital after suffering from “severe dehydration” following her defeat in the Australian Open women’s singles final to Denmark’s Caroline Wozniacki.

In a captivating tussle played out in stifling humidity in a floodlit Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Wozniacki shook off a tenacious challenge from Halep to win 7- 6( 2) 3- 6 6- 4 on Saturday.

But Halep was admitted to a hospital after her loss, staying overnight before being released on Sunday morning, reports the Mirror. In a picture, released by ESPN, Halep can be seen on a drip with her eyes closed as she recovered from the two hour, 50 minute match.

Halep spent almost 12 hours on court through her first six rounds in stifling heat — even before the epic final.

After the final, Halep said: “It’s not easy to talk now but first of all I want to congratulate Caroline, she played amazing. It’s been a great tournament to me. Of course I’m sad I couldn’t win today but Caroline was better than me.” The result ensured Wozniacki usurped Halep’s world number one ranking. Z l a t a n Ibrahimovic is itching to return to action for Manchester United. The Swedish star looked in good shape in an Instagram story posted to his page on Saturday, reports the Daily Mail. Captioned “high altitude work”, it shows Ibrahimovic on an exercise bike in an oxygen tent with a trainer, as he attempts to get back to peak fitness. Multiple reports have claimed he will return to full training next week. Ibrahimovic has not played for Manchester United since picking up a knock to his knee on Boxing Day. His return will certainly boost United manager Jose Mourinho.

Man United recently signed forward Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal.
