A station house officer of the Vijay Vihar police station was placed under suspension after he was allegedly caught for accepting bribe in connection with an illegal supply of arms.

SHO Dinesh Kumar and the sub- inspector Anuj were suspended after they were caught sympathising and helping an arms dealer Prateek Shaukeen who illegally supplied weapons in Delhi.

Interestingly, Prateek was arrested by the Vijay Vihar police for smuggling of arms six months ago, but both the accused officers favoured him in return for a large sum of money. According to the police, the dealer was not given any relief so he ended up telling the vigilance department about the matter and said that he was falsely implicated in the matter.

However, the Crime Branch arrested three persons involved in arms smuggling on January 10 and one of the accused was Prateek. After which both the police officers were suspended by DCP Rajneesh Gupta.

“In July 2017, Prateek’s driver committed snatching using his car. During one such robbery, his driver was apprehended by public and his car was seized. When search was conducted inside the car, one automatic pistol was recovered. The driver denied having any knowledge about the pistol,” said Gupta.

The DCP added, “Prateek was unable to produce any licence of the pistol, so he offered ` 15 lakh to SI Anuj to let him go. After accepting the money, Anuj told him that his name was in the disclosure report so only a mild case would be registered against him and he would be set free very soon.”

Later, Prateek was arrested with two other accomplices in January, the Crime Branch investigated the matter with the previous involvement.
