Missing jeweller found dead in friend’s house

Mystery shrouded the death of a jeweller who had allegedly gone missing on Tuesday. He was found dead in his friend’s house on Wednesday. Police are yet to register an FIR in this connection.

According to a police official, the deceased Deepak Gupta, son of Brijesh Gupta, was a resident of Chandra Vihar. He was residing along with three brothers. They have a jewellery showroom. Deepak was allegedly a bettor, often involved in betting. A police official said that Deepak had left home on Tuesday evening to meet his friend. However, he didn’t return. The anxious family members started searching for him. The Kalyanpuri police are yet to register an FIR in this connection. They said that they received a call from a private hospital telling them of Deepak’s death. When the team reached the hospital, a friend of the deceased, who had allegedly brought him to the hospital, was questioned. He allegedly told the police that Deepak had a debt of over ` 2 crore, the money he had lost in betting. The debtors were calling him, asking him to return their money. He further said that Deepak had come to his house on Tuesday evening following which they spoke to each other till late night. They both slept afterwards. On Wednesday, as Deepak didn’t wake up, he was moved to hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Police are questionin­g the friend and have also informed Deepak’s family. The body has been sent for postmortem and a case will be registered once the reports come out.
