Honor 9 Lite: A show- off smartphone on a budget

- AMRITANSHU MUKHERJEE

an AR car will have shadows on the other side when being viewed directly under the sunlight. The team is also working on realistic shaders to ensure the headset tries its best to blur the lines between all the realities.

Given the aims that AjnaLens is expected to achieve; we expect the headset to use some really potent hardware underneath. In the coming days, it will be challenging for the company to commercialise the product in a country obsessed with efficient economics, considering the advanced technology that has gone under its hood.

Therefore, it won’t be long before you will have a personal JARVIS assistant at your disposal, telling you more about your surroundings than your eyes. Honor has recently been seen as an aggressive player in the segment and their latest Honor 9 Lite is aimed at disrupting the segment with certain cl a s s - l e a d i n g features. Honor goes a step ahead by offering an all- glass body and a quad- camera setup and spicing it up with a j aw- dropping price of ` 10,999 for the base 3GB/ 32GB variant. The smartphone is an attention seeker with its mirror- finished, all glass body. Sadly, Honor has used a plastic frame sandwiched between the two non- scratch resistant glasses, both of which end up looking vulnerable to damage from simple scratches, bumps and drops.

The 9 Lite’s 5.6- inch 18: 9 LCD display is very capable with good dynamic range and contrasts. Powering the 9 Lite is their own o c t a - c o r e H i S i l i c o n Kirin 659 chipset along with 3GB RAM/ 32GB storage or 4GB RAM / 64GB version, where both offer storage expansion of up to 256GB. With latest EMUI 8.0 based on Android 8.0 Oreo, 9 Lite earns brownie points. The performance can at best be described as ‘ swift’, although occasional hiccups were noticed while switching between resource- intensive apps. With a 13MP + 2MP dual sensor setup for both the front and rear cameras, the 9 Lite manages to deliver above average pictures — images tend to show good colours and contrasts. The dual front camera manages sufficient amount of details in the photos with a good dynamic range along with a portrait mode. The 9 Lite’s 3000mAh battery manages to serve a full day under a moderate texting, binge- watching YouTube, taking lots of selfies and web browsing.

Overall, the 9 Lite is a decent alternative to the likes of Xiaomi and Motorola handsets falling under the ` 15,000 price bracket. If you are looking for an all- glass body with an 18: 9 display, selfie portraits and decent performance, this should make it to the top of your list.
