Charcha over pakoda held by Delhi BJP

- SHASHI BHUSHAN

Hundreds of workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party ( BJP) from North East Parliamentary constituency discussed the Union Budget over ‘ pakodas’ and ‘ chai’ in the national capital.

Local Lok Sabha member and Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari, party councillors and block presidents among others attended the ‘ pakoda’ party.

Those present at the gathering were served hot snacks by a pakodawala, who had set up a stall for that very day outside the venue in Yamuna Vihar.

Five different types of ‘ pakodas’ were prepared, which were served to the guests.

Mr Tiwari and other party leaders and workers enjoyed the ‘ pakodas’ before taking off for the meeting.

‘ Pakodas’ were also served during the meeting, which was convened to discuss the benefits of the Union Budget. Mr Tiwari paid for all the ‘ pakodas’ served before and during the meeting.

The BJP latched on to the ‘ pakoda’ theme after the Prime Minister during a recent TV interview said: “If a man selling ‘ pakodas’ outside the Zee TV office takes home ` 200 at the end of the day, is that not employment?” The remark led to a controversy with the Opposition parties cutting across party lines, ridiculed him.

On February 8, this newspaper had reported that the Delhi BJP unit would organise a ‘ pakoda party’ in the North East Delhi parliamentary constituency.

Taking the ‘ pakoda’ theme forward, the Delhi BJP chief had said the meeting would be in line with “Narendrea Modiji’s sabka sath, sabka vikas”.

During the first of its kind ‘ pakoda and chai party’, Mr Tiwari patiently explained about the benefits coming the people’s way due to the Union Budget to all the block presidents and councilors from his constituency in detail.

“Lakhs of people across the country are earning their livelihood by selling ‘ pakodas’. Such people not only take good care of their families, but also make plans of making their children doctors, engineers and advocates.”

“With the help of the Mudra loans, the small traders are doing good business and the party is will respect such as selfemployment,” Mr Tiwari said.
