SDMC doubles monthly social welfare pension

Announcing no hike in existing taxes or introducti­on of no new tax, South Delhi Municipal Corporatio­n ( SDMC) on Monday doubled the monthly pension of social welfare scheme to 2,000 from existing 1,000 per month.

Announceme­nts to this effect were made by Leader of the House Sikha Rai, while finalising the Budget for the next financial year.

She announced that the increased monthly pension will be given to the widows, terminally ill, affected with mental diseases, deserted women, kinnars ( eunuch), orphan children and others.

Ms Rai said that martyrs of the armed forces and paramilita­ry forces and their widows, medal winners of Olympics, Asian, and Commonweal­th Games to get full rebate of their property tax for their one residentia­l property on lumpsum payment of tax up to June 30.

“Ex- servicemen will get 30 per cent rebate in property tax of one residentia­l property. Farmers, who are the original owners of the land in the village area will get full exemption of property tax on their own one residentia­l self occupied property,” Ms Rai added.

She, however, imposed one percent education cess on due property tax and increase in mutation fee from 150 to 1,500.

Going against the new parking policy ofhe government, which suggested charging parking fee on vehicles parked inside the colony, Ms Rai said, “The SDMC wasn’t in favour of charging parking free for parking vehicles inside the colonies. In order to get more revenue from ads on colony gates and electricit­y poles, tree guards to be allowed.”
