Burglar inspired by ‘ Bunty Chor’, 3 aides held for thefts

The Delhi police on Wednesday arrested four suspected burglars, including Sahib, alias Sabu, alias Bunty, who aspired to be more famous that his illustriou­s senior Devinder Singh, aka Bunty Chor, in the burglary trade. He was also wanted by the Mumbai police in connection with burglaries,

With his arrest, the police claimed to have solved over 40 cases of burglaries. Bollywood flick Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! starring Abhay Deol was reportedly based on Bunty Chor’s life.

According to the police, the Shahadara district police arrested Sahib from Geeta Colony area on February 22 following a tip- off about his arrival to dispose off stolen items. Informatio­n regarding Sahib was received from the Mumbai police.

He was wanted in the burglaries in the transYamun­a area where he committed a number of burglaries, the police said.

During the questionin­g, Bunty revealed informatio­n about people through whom he disposed stolen items, including jewellery, phones, etc.

The police also recovered stolen articles, including laptops, jewellery and three CCTV cameras. A device, along with a CPU, that was used to crack the IMEI code of mobile phones was also recovered.

Three others arrested burglars have been identified as Imran, alias Saleem, Deep, alias Mota, and Rajnish Manchanda, alias Raju. While Imran, and Deep helped Sahib in disposing of stolen articles Rajnish helped him in cracking the IMEI numbers of stolen cellphones.

On sustained interrogat­ion, Bunty told the police that he had aspired to be more famous than super thief Bunty. He also disclosed that he was inspired from Bollywood movie Oye Lucky, Lucky Oye and adopted the same modus operandi to commit crimes. He entered into the crime world from Mumbai during his teenage days and stole a bicycle to impress his girlfriend.

Later, he came to Delhi. He aimed to commit sensationa­l burglaries adopting the modus operandi used by Bunty Chor.
