Titanium Frames S7 review: Large Karbonn on a budget

- ANKITA GARG

Karbonn’s Titanium Frames S7 is the latest addition to the entrylevel category. It comes packed with a large display, Android 7.0 Nougat, 13MP front and rear cameras, and a big battery.

The S7 features a metalplastic combo body and is a tad slippery. A single speaker grille and microUSB port occupy the bottom edge, while a 3.5mm headphone jack resides on the top. The 5.5- inch IPS full- HD display produces rich and vivid colours with bright indoor readability. However, legibility goes for a complete toss under direct sunlight.

The S7 is powered by a 1.45GHz quad- core MediaTek MT6737T processor clubbed with 3GB RAM/ 32GB of storage. The phone works just fine when it comes to multi- tasking and daily activities. The smartphone handles casual games pretty well and heats up quite a bit when processing heavy apps or game titles. The near- stock Android 7.0 plays a huge advantage in performance, but the interface isn’t as smooth as expected — simple scrolling through home screens or switching between apps gives a bit of a sluggish feeling. The phone additionally comes preloaded with a host of third- party apps such as App Bazar, Amazon shopping App, Bubble Bash 3, and UC News and Browser, which could be a put off for some users.

The rear camera captures decent shots in broad daylight — details and sharpness in photos are captured well. In low light, photographs are soft; but light metering takes a toss here. The front camera produces decent selfies and is suitable enough for social media. Overall, the cameras are just good enough for quick casual photos.

The S7 draws its power from a Li- ion 3000mAh reservoir and we managed to get a full working day without hunting for a charger.

To sum up, the S7 is a mediocre smartphone and will appeal to users who just want a large screen, decent camera and good battery life at a fairly low price. At a street price of ` 6,999, the phone is worth considering if your budget is restrained.
