- AGE CORRESPONDENT

Eleven persons, including four women, were arrested for cheating people on the pretext of providing maids, police said on Tuesday.

A person lodged a complaint at Kirti Nagar police station that he was cheated of 25,000. The victim told the police that he came in contact with one Anju Placement Agency and asked them to provide a maid as soon as possible. After sometime, a man, along with a maid, reached the complainant’s house and took 25,000 , police said. The victim took the affidavit, copies of Aadhaar card of the agency representative and the maid, said the police.

He also received a receipt of the payment. After completing the formalities, the agent left. Later, the maid too left, the police added.

The complainant made several calls to the placement agency, but they were found to be switched off. Realising he was duped, the complainant filed a case on March 8.

The call detail records of the numbers used by the agency representatives were scanned and two accused, including a woman, were identified, they said.

The accused said they have a gang to cheat people on the pretext of providing maids. The other gang too was arrested from Sai Enclave and Gautam Budh Nagar.

They used to provide numbers of their fake agency on websites such as Quikr and Just Dial. After they were contacted by people, they would take the money, provide the maid, who would flee within a couple of hours.
