Minor abducted by UPSC aspirant rescued by police

■ Demanded 20 lakh ransom ` ◗ Accused held after call made from a mobile phone traced by police

An UPSC aspirant, who also has a M. Tech degree, was caught in the nick of time after the police foiled his bid to extort a ransom of ` 20 lakh from the parents of a five year old boy kidnapped by him.

Taking cue from Bollywwod flicks like Tej, Indian and Singham, the accused, Asif Saifi, a resident of Dadri in Gautam Budh Nagar, had kidnapped the child on March 12. In a swift action and based on the mobile location, the police traced the caller and rescued the child within nine hours of receiving the ransom call.

According to DCP Dr Ajit Kumar Singla, Asif made a ransom call on March 13 for ransom of ` 20 lakh. Thereafter, technical analysis of the mobile numbers was done immediately.

The SIT was formed and the user of the mobile phone by which the ransom call was made was traced. “The man on the other side of the phone said that one passerby requested him to allow him to use his mobile for an emergency call and there was a child with him.

On the basis of the location of the caller, efforts were made and the accused was arrested from Dadri, UP, and the kidnapped child was rescued. The child has been restored to his parents,” added the officer.

The police said that Asif has a M. Tech degree and is presently preparing for the UPSC and other competitive examinations. He belongs to a poor family and has six siblings.
