4 held for stealing cash & valuables from weddings

Personnel of the interstate cell, crime branch busted the notorious Raja Dadda gang, experts in stealing bags and ornaments from upmarket wedding venues. Four gang members, including a taxi driver, have been arrested so far.

The gang comprising gate crashing thieves has committed more than 15 thefts from various marriage venues located in Delhi and NCR.

Probe revealed that the gang used to recruit juveniles, who were imparted training in stealing bags. Most gang members hail from Madhya Pradesh.

According to joint commission­er of police, crime branch, Alok Kumar, those arrested have been identified as Reema Bai ( 30), Raj Kumar ( 42) main accused Bhupendra Sharma ( 35) and an Ola cab driver.

According to the police, the leader of the gang would identify potential recruits.

He would enter into a contract with the family and hire the minor Once the juveniles were recruited, they were kept in posh neighbourh­oods as part of their training.

The juveniles were asked to observe the mannerisms of the rich and were trained to eat with a knife and fork, dress well and be well groomed.

“After completion of their training, the juveniles were sent to wedding ceremonies in five star hotels and high- profile venues. They mingle with the crowd, identify the bags that have cash and jewellery and steal them,” Mr Kumar said.

“Once the job is done, they leave the state within an hour. The gang also used to make prior arrangemen­ts for travel. The gang preferred juveniles as not only were they quick learners and if they are caught, they were not prosecuted. For such situations, the gang had their own set of lawyers in several states,” he added.

The police said that several cases of thefts of valuable were reported from five stars hotels among others.
