66% INDIANS FEEL EXERCISE AFFECTS HEALTH, WELLBEING

A global survey has revealed that 66 per cent of Indians feel exercise is the main factor impacting health and well- being more than sleep.

About 32 per cent of adults in India reported technology as a major sleep distractor and 19 per cent reported overlappin­g of work hours with normal sleep time ( shift work sleep disorder) as a key barrier to sleep.

The findings of Philips’ global survey, “Better Sleep, Better Health: A Global Look at Why We’re Still Falling Short on Sleep” was released on Thursday in the national capital.

During the survey, more than 15,000 adults across 13 countries ( United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Poland, France, India, China, Australia, Colombia, Argentina, Mexico, Brazil and Japan) were contacted.

The survey stated more than 80 per cent of these people remain undiagnose­d and 30 per cent find it difficult to initiate and maintain sleep.

According to the survey, more than 100 million people suffer from sleep apnea across the world.

The survey revealed that globally 77 per cent adults have tried to improve their sleep. Popular interventi­ons include soothing music ( in 36 per cent people) and institutio­n of a set bedtime and wake- up schedule ( 32 per cent). “About 45 per cent adults have tried mediation, while 24 per cent adults have tried specialise­d bedding to initiate good sleep,” it said.
