MLA’s brother held in Unnao gangrape case

Atul Sengar, brother of Uttar Pradesh’s BJP MLA Kuldeep Sengar, was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the gangrape of an 18- yearold woman and the custodial death of her father in Unnao district. An SIT has also been formed the state government to probe the incident.

Meanwhile, the postmortem report of the raped teen’s father has indicated that he had 14 injuries on the body and died of “shock and septicaemi­a”.

Atul Sengar, brother of BJP MLA Kuldeep Sengar who was charged with rape, has been arrested by the police, early on Tuesday morning.

He has been arrested under IPC sections 147 ( punishment for rioting), 323 ( voluntaril­y causing hurt) and 304 ( culpable homicide not amounting to murder).

Mr Atul Sengar has been accused of beating up the rape victim’s family and her father who died in police custody on Monday. Mr Atul Sengar had reportedly beaten up the girl’s father and other family members on April 3 when they refused to withdraw their rape complaint.

The victim’s father was later arrested on charges of assault and he died on Monday morning.

The post mortem report of Mr Surendra Singh alias Pappu Singh, the father of the rape victim, meanwhile, shows that he died of ‘ shock and septicemia’, . The report said that there was bleeding and perforatio­n in his lower intestines ( probably due to injury).

ADG ( law and order) Anand Kumar told reporters that a special investigat­ion team ( SIT) has been set up to probe the Unnao rape case and also the death of the rape victim’s father.
