Drive to identify quacks soon

- AGE CORRESPONDENT

The anti- quackery cell of the Delhi Medical Association ( DMA) will start a drive to identify and take legal action against fake doctors in the city.

Newly- appointed chairperson of the cell, Dr Anil Bansal, said that they have contacted doctors in the city to provide information of the quacks in their respective areas, following which action will be taken against them.

The Delhi high court, in an order in 2014, had formed a committee comprising Delhi government, Delhi Police, and Delhi Medical Council ( DMC) officials and had asked it to conduct raids on a weekly basis in different colonies.

However, the directions were being followed, said Dr Bansal. “Currently, the authorities are just acting on the complaints received and not conducting any raids. The police says they don’t have enough manpower, the government said that the DMC should take action, but the DMC maintains they are not authorised to file cases against the quacks.

“Ideally, if a team is going to enquire about a quack, based on a complaint, it should raid the entire colony, but it only acts on one single complaint at one time,” he said. An advertisement campaign to raise public awareness against quacks will also be launched soon. The anti- quackery cell members will meet director general, health, Delhi police commissioner and DMC shortly.
