In an alleged case of custodial torture, a woman has alleged that the police thrashed her husband brutally in Shahabad Dairy police station after the family did not pay 5 lakh bribe to the cops.

The complainan­t, identified as Meenakshi, Kumar’s wife, accused that the police for implicated her husband in a false case and torturing him. She said the police assaulted her husband Naveen Kumar alias Monu in Shahabad Dairy police station after the family refused to pay bribe of 5 lakh as asked by the cops.

She said it all began when Kumar’s friend Surya was taken into police custody earlier this month. Ms Meenakshi said Kumar used to visit the Shahabad Dairy police station to meet Surya. “On April 6, some policemen came to our house at around 10.15 am and arrested him.”

She added that the entire act was recorded in the CCTV camera installed outside their house.

She claimed that the police showed that Kumar was arrested from Rithala Metro station at 7.15 am on April 6 and was kept at the Metro Vihar police station, Shahabad Dairy. “No one was allowed to meet him,” she said.

“While he was in police custody, two to three cops came to our house and made us talk to someone over phone. The person on the other side demanded 5 lakh from us and toned down his demand to 3 lakh,” she said.

She claimed, “While we were leaving the police station, we heard Kumar’s shrieks. When his brother Sunil Kumar and maternal uncle Naveen complained to the PCR, some police officers came in a PCR van”.
