ONGC cruise into Sood semi- finals

Hiten Dalal and Shivam Chaudhary were jointly adjudged the man of the match

Match winning knocks from Hiten Dalal ( 154 not out) and Uttar Pradesh Ranji player Shivam Chaudhary ( 132 not out) helped Oil and Natural Gas Corporatio­n chase down a mammoth 325 runs to beat Swami Shardanand College by nine wickets to enter the semi- final of the 28th all India Volga Om Nath Sood Memorial cricket tournament at the St. Stephen’s College grounds in the capital on Sunday.

Put into bat, SS College lost their opener Pravesh Dahiya on the very first ball. Thereafter, Vivek Rana ( 75, 55b, 4x6, 8x4) along with Shubham Dahiya ( 131, 110b, 5x6, 12x4,) put up 122 off 112 balls for the second wicket partnershi­p.

At one stage, Swami Shardanand College were 267/ 6 in 34.3 overs. Rohan Rathi ( 36) and Manish Sehrawat ( 31 not out) then added 57 in the last 33 balls to help their team post 324 in 40 overs. For ONGC, Sumit Narwal and Sarang Rawat took two wickets apiece.

Chasing, ONGC openers Hiten Dalal and Shivam Chaudhary led the way as they overhauled the target in 36.4 overs.

Hiten, who struck seven sixes and 14 fours, put up 253 off 177 balls along with Shivam before retiring with a calf injury. Shivam’s 110- ball knock was studded with five sixes and 12 fours.

Dalal and Chaudhary were jointly adjudged the man of the match.
