‘ Remarkable’ performanc­e by govt schools

The pass percentage for CBSE Class 12 at Delhi government schools was better than last year. Education minister Manish Sisodia said that the result is 90.64 per cent, which is 2.37 per cent higher than last year.

The performanc­e of Delhi government schools was also 7.6 per cent higher than national CBSE average.

“Fantastic performanc­e by Delhi govt schools in Class 12; the 90.64% result is 2.37% better than our own performanc­e last year, and 7.6% higher than national CBSE average! Who would have thought this was possible?!,” wrote Atishi Marlena on Twitter.

Prince Kumar, a science stream student, topped the results among Delhi government schools, with 97 per cent. Son of a DTC bus driver, the student scored 100 in Math, 99 in Economics, and 98 in Chemistry. Education minister Manish Sisodia also took to Twitter to congratula­te students, teachers, and parents. To his post, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal wrote, “This is despure all obstacles created by L- G, BJP and PM. Congratula­tions to all students, teachers and principals.”

While 168 government schools achieved 100 per cent results against 112 of last year, 638 government schools achieved 90 per cent and above results against 554 schools last year. Meanwhile, the New Delhi Municipal Council ( NDMC) also said that the performanc­e of NDMC and Navyug schools is far better than national pass percentage and Delhi pass percentage.

“Compared to last year overall result of class 12th of NDMC and Navyug schools hs improved by nearly 4%, really a commendabl­e performanc­e,” said NDMC in a statement.

The overall Delhi pass percentage was 89 per cent, wherein girls ( 88.31 per cent) performed better than boys ( 78.99 per cent). Delhi also had the third highest pass percentage in the country, after Trivandrum and Chennai.

HRD minister Prakash Javadekar congratula­ted those who passed the CBSE class 12 exam and also advised those who did not do well not to lose heart. He also said the quality of government schools is improving and congratula­ted those for a good show.
