Vivo introduces in- display fingerprint scanning for a better touch experience

- VISHNU ANAND

Our smart phone experience moves one step closer everyday to stuff of science- fiction movies. Iris scanning, face recognition and gesture recognition are standard specs for any mid- range smartphone today, so the quest to impress with cool functionalities has taken a new direction. Vivo, for the first time, has introduced an in- display fingerprint scanning feature with its latest offering — the Vivo X21.

The X21 allows you to touch the bottom part of the screen, to activate the OLED display and illuminate your finger. The display contains an optical fingerprint sensor underneath, which captures the reflected light from the unique fingerprint pattern. Upon successfully recognising this pattern, the sensor signals the processor to unlock the device. All this happens in real- time, and to make things cooler, Vivo allows you to choose from a number of preset visualisations every time your finger touches the sensor.

The in- display fingerprint scanning is complemented by the X21’ s 6.28 inches full- view display, offering a 90.3 per cent screen- to- body ratio, the display comes with a 19: 9 aspect ratio, powered by a 3,200 mAh battery with dual quick charge. The phone comes with a 12 MP plus 5 MP dual rear camera combo along with a 12 MP front camera. Both the 12 MP cameras operate with proprietary dual pixel sensors. While normal sensors utilise around 5 per cent of the pixels during autofocus, dual pixels use up to 90 per cent of the pixels, resulting in faster autofocus and better low- light images. Not many smartphone brands seem to focus on sound performance these days. Vivo, however has added a DeepField sound effect to the X21 that churns out louder, heavier bass, surround sound and clearer vocal quality during calls. The device comes in a 6 GB and 128 GB memory configuration, with Android 8.1 out of the box, powered by the Snapdragon 660 chipset. Available only in black, the X21 is priced at ` 35,990, and available offline and on Flipkart. If you are looking for stylish design that is future- ready, along with specs that focus on camera performance, the X21 is a good choice this

year.
