STRONG START FOR ADITI IN PGA C’SHIPS

New Delhi: Aditi Ashok opened with a steady 2- under 70 to be tied 15th at the end of the first round of the KPMG Women’s PGA Championsh­ips in Kildeer, USA, on Thursday. Aditi hit four birdies against twp dropped shots to stay within touching distance of the leaders. Three time winner on the LPGA Tour and 2017 US Women’s Open champion Sung yun Park surged to the top of the leaderboar­d with a bogeyfree, 66 to take the outright lead on day one.

BHULLAR UP TO THIRD In Pattaya, Thailand, Gaganjeet Bhullar sparkled on the back nine of the Phoenix Gold Golf Course with six birdies for a round of 6- under 65 to move from overnight T25 to T3 at 9under 133 at the midway stage of the Queens Cup on Friday. American Sihwan Kim closed with four straight birdies to grab a three- shot lead alongside playing partner Jazz Janewattan­anond of Thailand at the halfway stage. Among other Indians, Rashid Khan ( 67) also made a big move up to T13 at 6- under 136, while Honey Baisoya also shot a 65 and moved to 4- under 138 alongside S. Chikkarang­appa ( 68) in tied 40th.

SHARMA MAKES AMENDS Shubhankar Sharma began with a disappoint­ing five- over 77, but was making amends in the early stages of the second round of the HNA Open de France in Paris. Sharma was three- under through his first five holes in the second round. S. S. P. Chawrasia shot 75 and 74 to be seven over and was certain to miss the cut.
