Heena, Manu in squad, Narang misses out

New Delhi, June 29: Gagan Narang, Jitu Rai and young Mehuli Ghosh failed to make the Indian shooting squad for the Asian Games, even as a few unheralded faces were picked for the quadrennia­l extravagan­za, starting August 18 in Indonesia.

The army man will be taking part in standard pistol and centre fire ( non Olympic events), though he had won the top prize of his career in rapid fire.

The two member men’s air rifle team will comprise Ravi Kumar and Deepak Kumar while the 3- position team are made up of Sanjeev Rajput and Akhil Sheoran even as Narang missed out.

Heena Sidhu and Manu Bhaker will represent India in the women’s air pistol while Rahi Sarnobat and Bhaker will also take part in the sports pistol event. SHIVA, SARJUBALA MAKE CUT

Shiva Thapa ( 60kg) claimed a place in the boxing team for the Games after winning the trials, while Sarjubala Devi clinched the 51kg spot in the women’s squad — a category thrown open after M. C. Mary Kom pulled out with a shoulder problem. The men’s 60kg and 64kg and the women’s 51kg division were decided following trials here.

MIRABAI TO LEAD INDIAN CHALLENGE World champion Saikhom Mirabai Chanu will spearhead the weightlift­ing challenge at the Asiad.

Mirabai will compete in women’s 48kg while Rakhi Halder will take part in 63kg.
