SRIJAN SCAM: CBI TO PROBE LO­CAL POLITI­CIANS

The CBI which has al­ready reg­is­tered sev­eral cases per­tain­ing to the multi- crore Srijan scam in Bi­har, has now de­cided to ex­am­ine lo­cal politi­cians in cer­tain cases as part of its in­ves­ti­ga­tion into the mat­ter. “The agency is prob­ing the role of five state level politi­cians in con­nec­tion with the scam and they will soon be called for ques­tion­ing”, sources said. The CBI has al­ready reg­is­tered around 25 cases in con­nec­tion with Srijan scam in Bi­har in which gov­ern­ment funds worth sev­eral crores were allegedly em­bez­zled by a non- gov­ern­men­tal or­gan­i­sa­tion ( NGO). The CBI has al­ready booked all the of­fice bear­ers of the NGO ‘ Srijan Mahila Vikas Sahyog Samiti’ in these cases along with the then branch man­agers of In­dian Bank, Bank of Bar­oda, be­sides land ac­qui­si­tion of­fi­cers of sev­eral districts in Bi­har. Pres­i­dent of Srijan Shubh­laxmi Prasad and nine other of­fice- bear­ers of the vol­un­tary group had also been named in the agency’s FIRs. It is al­leged that the group which was work­ing to­wards im­part­ing train­ing to women had pil­fered gov­ern­ment funds to the tune of over ` 1000 crore in con­nivance with the bank of­fi­cials and state gov­ern­ment of­fi­cials be­tween 2003 and 2014.
