In yet another horrific case of sexual crimes against minors, an 11year- old girl was allegedly raped at a government hospital in northwest Delhi’s Rohini area in the early hours of Friday, said the police. The 40- year- old accused, who works as a housekeeping staff at the hospital, has been arrested, the police added.

DCP ( Rohini) Rajneesh Gupta said the girl was admitted to ESI Hospital in Rohini on September 13 and has been undergoing treatment since then.

On Friday morning at around 4.30 am, the girl had stomach ache and she stepped out of her ward to find a member of nursing staff who could give her some medication. The accused spotted her and took her to his room and allegedly raped her.

“The accused told her not to tell anybody about the incident. Subsequently, she returned to her ward. But when her mother returned, she told her everything,” said a police officer, who wished not to be named.

The accused was arrested from the hospital after the girl’s parents reported the matter to the police. The DCP said the girl’s family called the police control room around 6 am.

Recent incidents of sexual crimes at government hospitals in Delhi portray a sorry state of affairs. Just this week, a 45- year- old woman accused doctors at the state- run Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital in Delhi of sexually abusing her inside the operation theatre during her heart surgery. An FIR has been registered against the accused medical professionals under section 354 of the Indian Penal Code.
