NCW to city cops: Identify all spots unsafe for women
It was also decided that the commission and police will collaborate and organise orientation programmes for women migrating to Delhi from the Northeast
New Delhi, Sept. 26: The National Commission for Women on Wednesday asked the Delhi police to identify unsafe or vulnerable areas in the city and give better protection to women by increasing patrolling and installing 2,000 more CCTVs at such spots.
An NCW delegation met officials of the Delhi Police to discuss ways to strengthen coordination between the commission and the police to collectively ensure safety of women in the capital, NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma said.
“The Commission will organise gender sensitisation programmes for police personnel, judicial officers, doctors and forensic experts with a view to address certain misconceptions about provisions of laws and also impress upon them the need for prompt action in such cases,” she said.
It was also decided that the commission and Delhi police will collaborate and organise orientation programmes for women migrating to Delhi from the Northeast region for education and work to facilitate such women to adjust in the changed environment, Ms Sharma said.
“There was also emphasis by the NCW to identify unsafe or vulnerable areas/ spots and give better protection to women in these areas by increasing patrolling and installing more CCTVs,” Ms Sharma said.
Explaining further, an NCW official said the Delhi police will install 2,000 more CCTVs in addition to the 3,000 already in place across the capital.
In addition, the Delhi police has operationalised a system for utilising 1.5 lakh private CCTVs to gather evidence during investigation, if and when required, an NCW official said.
