Club face backlash for ‘ naked’ injury update
A Russian hockey team risks accusations of sexism after posting a naked image of a player as part of an injury announcement. HC Spartak Moscow were slammed online for using the controversial image to break news of “leader” Yulia Ushakova’s ankle sprain, reports the Daily Mail.
The picture, which showed Ushakova lying on a treatment table wearing just her underwear, provoked anger on Twitter from a number of accounts.
Barca Women, an unofficial account, quote tweeted the original post with the terse caption: “This is how Spartak Moscow announced an ankle injury to attacker, Julia Ushakova. One reply read: “This is so wrong ( considering the current challenges), and I mainly blame her.”
Ushakova, a former bodybuilding champion who also works for the club’s TV channel, had earlier posted the same image on her own Instagram page.
She wrote: “I twisted my ankle, two broken nails. My wrist will be corrected, and when I go for the manicure, the problem will be solved. I started the week badly.
“I will solve the ‘ women’s problems’ in terms of the degree of significance, first I’ll remove the wrinkles, then to the manicure. And the ankle itself will pass.
“Let’s see how cosmetics works @ celltense_ russia. To all, a cool and positive start of the week!”
